He is a character reminiscent of Donna Leon’s Guido Brunetti, middle-aged and settled, but a quirky rebel in his investigations and wise in his insights into human nature. This charming series is now into its third book about Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec and his investigations in the small Southern Quebec hamlet of Three Pines. (The most recent is I Shall Not Want, and it does not disappoint!) Try these authors for a similar feel: Mysteries: You’ve read Julia Spencer-Fleming’s Claire Ferguson/Russ Van Alstyne series beginning with IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER.
